Chargeable weight compares physical weight with the space occupied by the shipment under the chosen service’s rules. Calculate each package using the applicable dimensional factor, then apply the carrier’s rounding and minimum rules.
Collect final packing measurements
Measure the outer length, width and height of each packed piece. Include bulges, pallets and protective packing where they affect the outside dimensions. Use gross weight, including packaging, rather than the product’s net weight.
Calculate dimensional weight
For a service using a divisor of 5,000 with centimeters, divide length × width × height by 5,000. A 50 × 40 × 30 cm carton has a dimensional weight of 12 kg. If its gross weight is 8 kg, the dimensional figure is larger.
Do not average unlike cartons
For a shipment with different boxes, calculate each piece separately. A heavy small carton should not automatically cancel the billable space of a light large carton. Confirm whether the chosen service assesses and rounds individual pieces or the full consignment.
